When Purpose Feels Out of Reach: What Rejection Taught Me About Alignment

Updated: Jun 19

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you could practically feel it? Like your whole being believed it was meant for you? That was me — two times — applying for what I believed was my dream job.

A Journey Through Rejection

The first time, I chalked it up to timing. But the second time, I was defeated. Discouraged. I felt disconnected from my purpose. It was hard not to question everything: my path, my leadership, my value. It was an emotional low point that many of us know too well — when you start wondering if you’ve been climbing the wrong mountain.

The Shift in Perspective

But here’s where the shift happened. After the second rejection, something nudged me to stop chasing external validation. I began to explore internal alignment instead. I enrolled in the iPEC Professional Certified Coach program. Not because I wanted to become a coach (that idea came later), but because I wanted to grow. I craved clarity and confidence. I needed to reconnect with who I was as a leader and as a person.

Discovering Coaching

The unexpected twist? When I began coaching as part of the certification requirements, something clicked. It felt natural. My values, energy, and instincts were finally lining up. I stopped chasing titles or roles. I started to create impact through authentic connection and meaningful transformation.

Leading and Coaching: Finding the Balance

That’s when I realized: leading and coaching are related, but not the same. I can be a strong leader and find deeper fulfillment guiding others. I help them rediscover their spark, shift their mindset, and find joy on their own terms. Coaching became a calling — not a consolation prize.

Reassessing Your Values

Since then, I regularly reassess my values, interests, and goals. I’ve learned that my work does not define my worth. I’ve found joy in what I do — both in my leadership role and in coaching — because I’m showing up with purpose, not just chasing outcomes.

Embracing Rejection

Here’s what I want you to know, whether you’re facing rejection, doubt, or uncertainty:

  • Rejection is not a verdict. It’s an invitation — to realign, reimagine, and recalibrate.

  • Sometimes the universe is steering us toward growth we didn’t know we needed.

  • Sometimes we’re just not ready yet — and that’s okay.

  • Sometimes there are still lessons to learn.

Feeling Off-Course?

If you’re feeling off-course, try this:

  1. Ask “Why not me… yet?” instead of spiraling into “Why me?”

  2. Stay curious.

  3. Get honest.

  4. Listen inward.

Remember: the version of you who comes out the other side will be wiser, stronger, and more aligned.

Coaching Clients: A New Approach

As a coach, I bring that same mindset to my work with clients. I help people explore their truth. Together, we reconnect with what lights them up and own their path — even when it’s winding. I firmly believe that you are not defined by what you do, but by who you are and how you show up.

Overcoming Uncertainty

So, if you’re in a season of uncertainty, know this: You are not lost. You are becoming. And that’s a beautiful, powerful thing.
